This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, and the Rugby Football League's Match Officials Department took some time out of their usual schedule to take part in a different kind of training on Tuesday.
Mental Health First Aid England trainer, Martin Coyd, delivered a half-day course to the officials, which is designed to provide an introduction to and raise awareness of mental health and how to challenge the stigma.
It provides a basic knowledge of common mental health issues, provides individuals with an introduction to maintaining their own mental health wellbeing, and provide people with confidence to support someone in distress or who may be experiencing a mental health issue.
Rugby Football League Head of Match Officials Steve Ganson said: "The course was funded by Rugby League Cares and I would like to thank them and Martin Coyd for his delivery and time.
"The course will be very beneficial for both our Match Officials and coaches."
