Today is the start of #VolunteersWeek across charities and community organisations nationwide.
Ralph Rimmer, Interim Chief Executive, the Rugby Football League says; “Thousands of people volunteer week in, week out, to make Rugby League happen in clubs, schools, parks, colleges, universities and the Armed Forces. Volunteers Week is a great opportunity to thank and celebrate the generosity and commitment of Rugby League volunteers. Everyone in Rugby League, myself included, has been a volunteer – at events, supporting children as a parent or carer, getting involved in informal or formal coaching, fundraising, marketing or generally helping out. Every single volunteer, every role, makes a massive difference.
“As we look to the Rugby League World Cup 2021 we have new opportunities to support and develop existing volunteers so that those who give the most to the sport benefit from our home world cup, and to welcome new volunteers to Rugby League as one of the friendliest, most inclusive sports.”
Research by the Sport and Recreation Alliance shows that each volunteer in sport creates an opportunity to play for over 8 participants. There are more volunteers in the sport sector than in any other sector including arts and culture.
